AUBURN, ALABAMA (WTVM) - Legendary Auburn swim coach Richard Quick has died.
He was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer in December of 2008.
He had been in his second stint with Auburn, with his team capturing a National Championship this year.
In addition to his collegiate coaching days, he was head coach of the U.S. Olympic swim teams in 1988, 1996 and 2000.
In a press release, Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs offered this statement.
"We are tremendously saddened by the passing of Richard Quick, who is one of the finest individuals that I've ever known," Jacobs said.
"While he lost a valiant battle against a cruel disease, Richard was an inspiration to countless people who were touched by his steadfast faith and amazing courage in the face of tremendous adversity."
Quick was 66 years old.
A memorial fund has been setup in his name. Proceeds will go to the Auburn and Austin, TX communities and a global outreach non-profit called Love 'n' Care.
