Phenix City Mayor Gets Raise

PHENIX CITY, AL (WXTX) - Just two weeks after Phenix City councilors gave themselves a pay increase, the group voted to increase the current mayor's salary to a little over $27,000.

This is a $15,000 increase from his previous salary of $12,000 a year. We're told the salary for the position of mayor has not been raised in almost ten years.

Earlier this year, the Alabama Legislature approved a pay raise for the mayor and council.

Last month, city council voted to increase their pay from $9600 a year to almost $22,000 a year.

In the resolution passed Tuesday morning, the council approved the next mayor of Phenix City to make $35,000 a year.
