Home invasion turns into rape & robbery

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Imagine being sound asleep in your home and suddenly being attacked by intruders in the middle of the night.

Police say that's what happened to residents at one Spring Cove apartment on East Heights Drive around 4 AM Tuesday.

Police say three men and a 19-year-old woman were sleeping inside one of the units when three armed men burst in.

At gunpoint, they made all of the men inside the apartment get into one room and forced them to lay on the floor.

Investigators say the teenage woman was sexually assaulted and all of the victims were robbed before the three intruders took off.

They're described as 3 black males:

One at 6'2" 180 lbs., wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans and a black mask with yellow around the eyes and mouth, possibly with some sort of camouflage pattern.

Another is described as 5'4" 180 lbs. stocky, with a dark t-shirt and orange ski mask.

And the third is described as 5'4 slim, wearing a black hat and a black t-shirt tied around his face so it only showed his eyes.

Neighbors say they can't believe this happened at the normally quiet complex.

"I've been here 24 years and there's never been anything that happened like this, not this serious. I can't believe this happened so close to home," said neighbor Bryan Damren.

Two men in the apartment were injured during the attack but are okay tonight.

Police say they have no suspects in the case and no arrests have been made.

They also say a car was not seen leaving the scene.

Investigators don't believe the victims knew the intruders.

Anyone with information call the Columbus Police Department at 706-653-3400.
