Maj. Gen. Barbero nominated for third star; will deploy to Iraq

FORT BENNING, GA  - The Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced Friday that the President has nominated Maj. Gen. Michael D. Barbero, commanding general U.S. Army Infantry Center and School and Fort Benning, for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as Commander, Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq and Commander, NATO Training Mission-Iraq, United States Central Command.

Barbero will relinquish command to Maj. Gen. Michael Ferriter during a change of command ceremony at 9 a.m. June 24 on Soldiers Field at Patriot Park.

Patriot Park is located on the grounds of the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center.
