MACON COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -  Alabama State Troopers are investigating a deadly accident that claimed the life of an Opelika woman.

Sixty-six-year-old Caroline Ford and her husband were driving on Interstate 85 North early Saturday morning around 1:30 near the Macon and Lee County line.

Troopers say a tire blew out on the couple's car near mile marker 45, causing Ford's husband to lose control, run off the road and overturn.

She was airlifted to the Columbus Medical Center where she passed away several hours later.

Her husband was taken to the East Alabama Medical Center with injuries.

He was treated and released.
