COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - It's official, there is a new Miss Georgia.
Emily Cook was crowned during a formal ceremony Sunday afternoon at the Cunningham Center on the campus of Columbus State University.
"I'm just really excited. The preparation for Miss Georgia was at least half the fun for me, so I think the preparation for Miss America will be equally as fun," Cook said.
Cook assumed the title after Kristina Higgins relinquished it last Sunday, less than 24 hours after taking top honors at the Columbus RiverCenter.
Higgins said she stepped down because of her responsibilities as a middle school teacher.
She claimed she could not fulfill the duties of the crown.
Former Miss Georgia Chasity Hardeman was on hand to crown Cook and offer some advice.
