LaGrange Residents Forced to Move Out

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - The Broad Street Apartments in LaGrange now sit abandoned.

Each of the units cleaned out and nothing or no one is left, but Carlos Morales and his family.

"When I pay my money and everything and then they do me like that. That's no good and its not easy trying to find another place to live," says Morales.

Morales says he and his neighbors pay $400 a month and that includes water, gas and sewer services.

But, their Landlord has an outstanding bill with the city utility department, and the water was turned off.

"Its been going on for several months. We've been working on trying to come up with some compromise with the landlord to allow him to bring the account current and its just got to the point where we had to take this action," says Utilities Director, Patrick Bowie.

Morales says residents are outraged and the landlord is nowhere to be found.

"I want to tell him its not right. Why is he doing us this way? I have a hard time now and I've got three kids and its not easy," he says.

We tried contacting the Landlord.

The person we spoke to at the leasing office told us the Landlord was in Switzerland.

City officials have turned the water back on to give residents a few days to move out.

"We're trying to work with the landlord to work out some details to see what we can do to get them caught up," says Bowie.
