Second Shooting at Opelika Social Club

OPELIKA, Alabama (WXTX) - Opelika police are asking for informaton on a shooting at the BMW social club. Two men were injured in the gunfire. Investigators say it's the second time, in four months, the club has become a crime scene.

"You know it's happening all over the world. People killing people. It ain't going to happen here anymore," claimed retired school teacher Paul Gibson.

Gibson owns the building where Sunday nights shooting happened at the BMW social Club.

Two bullets pierced the clubs front door. Inside, a chalkboard hangs above tables where members play cards, watch sports and some drink.

"Please be on your best behavior" is written in white chalk.

Under those words, the carpet is stained red. Detectives say it's blood from one of the two victims.

One man was shot in his neck, he's at UAB. Another victim was shot in the chest. Their conditions are unknown.

"At this time the only suspect info we have is of a black male, black shirt armed with a handgun," said Opelika Police Captain, Allan Elkins.

This isn't the first shooting near club on Martin Luther King Boulevard.

In March, A 37 year old was shot and killed. 22-year old Renza Wright is charged with his murder.

We asked Gibson if he was worried about the violence that seemed to surround his building, and the BMW club.

"it's very disturbing It won't happen again because I am putting them out just as son as I can find the one with the key and put a lock on the door," he told us.

Gibson plans on shutting the club down. This, as detectives search for the shooter. Gipson says someone knows something and he hopes they will step forward. He says he's tired of the violence.

If you have any information on the Sunday night shooting you are asked to call Opelika Police at 334-705-5200.
