SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) - Tuesday, fire departments worked diligently to put out a house fire at 5194 Lee Road 246.

Around 8:00 a.m. at least three volunteer fire departments were called in to put out the blaze -- Friendship Volunteer Fire Department in Smiths, Salem Volunteer Fire Department in Lee County and Crawford Volunteer Fire Department from Russell County.

We're told the home was destroyed. Firefighters say they ran into the problem of finding water to put out the blaze, so they called in additional water trucks to help.

The owner of the home had left before the blaze started to run errands.  What's still unknown is how the fire started.

This story is still developing. We'll have the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
