Corps Announces Campground to Close September 13, 2009 for Improvements
LANETT, AL- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Project, announces Amity Campground will close September 13, 2009 to facilitate extensive improvement work in the area.
Plans include constructing a new gatehouse, park attendant site, and landscaping the grounds adjacent to the campground entrance. Electrical service at 33 campsites will be upgraded from 30 amp to 50 amp, and three vault restrooms will be converted to waterborne facilities.
R. Shaefer Heard Campground will remain open through the 2009 winter season. R. Shaefer Heard Campground is located four miles north of West Point Georgia off US 29.
The R. Shaefer Heard Campground offers 117 sites with electric and water hookups. Additional amenities include a dump station, laundry facilities, showers, a boat ramp, a playground, and a tennis court.
Use fees for single campsites with utility hook-ups are $22 per night and $44 per night for double campsites.
