COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Kenneth Heath, the man assaulted by another man with a cinder block in Columbus Thursday night,  passed away Saturday afternoon at the Columbus Regional Medical Center.

Police have arrested 37-year-old Bobby Lee Guthrie in connection with Heath's death.

Officials say Guthrie hit Heath with a cinder block in the head, seriously injuring him, then left the scene.

Police add they originally charged Guthrie with aggravated assault and simple battery, but his charges have been upgraded to murder.

He's also expected to appear in Recorder's Court on Wednesday morning.

In the meantime, Heath's family has set up a memorial fund at Wachovia in his name to help with medical and funeral costs. You can make a donation at any branch to the Kenneth Heath Memorial Fund.
