Man accused of fatal attack with cinder block pleads not guilty

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The man accused in a fatal attack with a cinder block made his first court appearance Wednesday morning.

Emotions ran high in Columbus Recorder's court as Bobby Lee Guthrie went before the judge.

Guthrie pleaded not guilty to charges he killed a man by hitting him in the head with a cinder block.

He was arrested Saturday afternoon in connection with the beating last Thursday of Kenneth Heath.

The attack left Heath in critical condition. He died two days later from his injuries.

Guthrie claims the two were fighting about a girl, and told the court he threw the cinder block in self-defense.

The judge still upheld his charges and bound the case over to Superior Court.

Guthrie is being held in the Muscogee County Jail without bond.
