COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A 29-year-old Columbus man is in the hospital tonight after a home invasion in North Highland.

Police say Bobby Cooks was inside his home on 5th Avenue around 2:30 AM Saturday morning when he heard a knock on the door.

Cooks tells investigators when he opened the door, two black males burst in trying to rob him. He says the men were both armed with handguns and wore something covering their faces.

He fought back and police say the intruders started shooting, striking Cooks twice in the shoulder and once in the wrist before taking off.

Cooks was taken to Doctor's Hospital. He was transferred to the Medical Center were he is listed in guarded condition.

Police are working on getting a more detailed description of the suspects.
