Ft. Benning to accommodate patrons without ID cards

Press Release

FORT BENNING, GA - Post employees concerned they will not be able to enter post with only Georgia driver's licenses Aug. 17, when security guards will begin using hand-held scanners to scan identification cards and driver's license, can rest easy.

People who work on post, who have only a Georgia driver's license and do not have other forms of ID to access post, can go to one of the two visitors centers on post Aug. 17 to receive ID cards that can be scanned by the new hand-held devices, said David Moore, Department of Emergency Services physical security specialist .  The visitor's centers are located at the Benning Road and I-185 gates.

Visitors who have this as the only form of ID must also go to one of the visitor's centers to have their licenses scanned while obtaining a visitor's pass.

Gate guards will use the hand-held devices called Mobilisas to check a variety of ID cards against known databases.  The Mobilisas will alert security guards of false or expired IDs, warrants, people on watch lists and more.

Mobilisas will scan military common access cards, family member and retiree IDs, passports and all state driver's licenses except Georgia driver's licenses.
