Two dogs die in house fire on Shelby St.

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, two men tried to put out a fire that started on a couch inside their house on Shelby Street - near Access Alley.

The men were overcome by the smoke and escaped. They were not burned but sadly, two dogs inside the home died.

One of the men, a 29-year-old was treated and released from the hospital for smoke inhalation.

A 25-year-old man with asthma was sent to Augusta to be treated for smoke inhalation. His injuries are not life threatening.

It took crews about 20 minutes to put out the blaze. Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started.
