RICHLAND, GA (WTVM) - A handful of local police, county sheriff's departments and the GBI assisted on an arrest Wednesday night, involving a major case investigated by the Columbus Police Department.

District Attorney Julia Slater tells us Columbus Police have been building a case against Michael and Phyllis Bleckley of Richland for reportedly running a $2.6 million ponzi-like operation between January of 2001 and February of 2006.

The Bleckley's were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon. Officials within the Stewart County Sheriff's department tell us the Bleckley's own the Bullock House restaurant in Warm Springs and two funeral homes -- one in Richland and one in Buena Vista.

For the time being, witnesses in Richland tell us Highway 280 through Richland has been closed to traffic while investigators continue to work.

District Attorney Julia Slater plans to hold a press conference on Thursday.
