Macon County, AL schools closed as a precaution

(WTVM) -- Macon County school administrators have closed all schools in the county Friday because of the H1N1 virus.

The school board calls it a precaution since more than 200 students were out with flu symptoms Thursday.

The buildings are being cleaned Friday, and should be ready for classes again on Monday.

"The classrooms are really what the focus is because the classroom is really where people congregate. Outside, when someone sneezes, that goes in to the wind," said Alfanso Robinson with the Macon County School Board.

Meantime, the virus isn't limited to grade schools.

Auburn University is dealing with six confirmed cases of H1N1, and is preparing to quarantine students showing symptoms.

They will be moved into a separate dorm.
