RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -  Investigators with the Russell County Sheriff's Department have put a registered sex offender back behind bars after a local teen says he kidnapped and raped her.

They say Duane Hodge took a 19-year-old Columbus girl from Veteran's Parkway Tuesday night and drove her across state lines into Russell County. Officials say he assaulted her in a church parking lot off Sanford Road before taking her back to Columbus.

"It was determined that Mister Hodge had picked the victim up in Columbus, Georgia, brought her across the river into Russell County and it was out in the county at a certain location that he raped her," said Lieutenant Heath Taylor, Chief Investigator with the Russell County Sheriff's Department.

Taylor says once the teen was back in Columbus, she called friends to take her to Saint Francis Hospital for treatment. There, she reported the alleged assault and authorities were contacted.

He says the victim and Hodge did not know each other until their reported encounter in downtown Columbus.

Hodge is being held in the Russell County Jail, charged with rape 1st.

Columbus Police have issued warrants on him for the alleged kidnapping but say he will have to serve whatever sentence he receives in Alabama before he can be officially charged.

The Phenix City man is a registered sex offender in Russell County.
