Flyovers Lead to Major Drug Busts

CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL (WXTX) - More than $300,000 worth of marijuana has been destroyed in Chambers County, AL after a two day marijuana eradication operation.

Members of the Chambers County Drug Task Force and ABI agents located several marijuana plants growing next to this home in Lafayette. The plants were pulled up and will be destroyed. The homeowner was questioned, arrested and charged with possession.

Over the two day operation, pilots trained at spotting the plants from the air and led investigators to more than 150 plants -- valued at more than $2500.00 each. Those growers have not been identified or located.

"The drug task force does an excellent job anytime you put that many professionals together with the same goal you can't go wrong," said Richard Carter, Chief Deputy of the Chambers County Sheriff's Office.

So far, across the state of Alabama, marijuana eradication pilots have helped narcotics officers locate and destroy nearly 60,000plants. As a result, 77 people have been arrested.
