COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The football field at A. J. McClung Memorial Stadium in Columbus is lined and concession preps are underway for Columbus Youth Football League's opening day, the NFL Punt and Pass and a softball tournament.

It's a big weekend to say the least.  The excitement is high as well as the skepticism.  Kurk Schmitz, WTVM Chief Meteorologist, is keeping an eye on the radar.  "I wouldn't say change your plans, but we are expecting some isolated showers Saturday and Sunday anytime in the afternoon, "says Schmitz.

Julia Crocker, Columbus Youth Football President, says weather permitting; the league does have an alternate plan. "The kids really want to play, they've already told me and we will start in the morning and take a break and resume with our schedule. If it starts thundering and lightning, the referees will call it off."

1800 children will take to the field Saturday with 6000 spectators hoping the rain will not drown out their first game day.
