Commanding general hosts warfighting conference

FORT BENNING, Ga. -- Maj. Gen. Michael Ferriter, the commanding general of the U. S. Army Infantry Center and Fort Benning, will host the 2009 Infantry Warfighting Conference Sept. 21-23 at the Columbus Iron Works and Trade Center in Columbus, Ga. 

This year's theme is "Training Leaders for Full Spectrum Operations" and will feature Army leaders with recent combat experience, who will give their insights on this topic.  The conference will also showcase how the Army conducts counterinsurgency operations in varying environments.  The best methods that leaders are using will be highlighted by key speakers.

The conference assembles Army leaders to showcase the efforts of training Soldiers to meet the needs of the Operational Army.  Some of the Army's top leadership will give presentations discussing a host of topics and issues.  Ferriter, will provide an update of the current state of the Infantry.  There will also be presentations by Gen. David Petraeus, commander of U.S. Central Command, Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center and Sergeant Major of the Army Kenneth O. Preston, among others.

More than 275 vendors will display weapons and equipment currently being used as well as items in development that may be used in the future. In addition to showing their products, many of the vendors will be gathering comments concerning recommended changes and improvements that will affect the final product produced.

The public is invited to visit the exhibitions.  Those who wish to attend the conference presentations and other events must register at the Infantry Warfighting Conference Web site at https://216.236.238.210/infantry.  There is no conference fee, however, there are fees for many events such as the dinners.
