COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Muscogee County Schools have good news and a few extra dollars coming their way. The Department of Defense granted $1.7 million to update or create new technology for schools.

Spencer High School is just one of the many benefiting. The high school will get several smart boards for classrooms and iPods to create a podcast library for teachers and students.

Spencer High School Principal Reginald Griffin told News Leader Nine, "This generation works faster and they can do a ton of things at the same time. We're going to bring these innovative ideas and technology into the classroom because our students are using them. We're finding creative ways to engage our students."

Spencer High Freshman Andre Carter added, "It's very exciting, something to get the interest of the students."

The new technology will be in schools by the start of 2010.
