COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Nine people are without a home after fire officials reported a house fire just before 9:00 a.m. Friday on Gleason Avenue.

All of the home's occupants were evacuated.

Officials believe the fire started with combustibles around the water heater.

All that exists of the home now is the shell of the carport.

The battalion chief warns that this could happen to anyone. Officials suggests if you have a gas heater inside your home, you should also have a carbon monoxide detector.

We're told the local Red Cross has stepped in to assist the family affected by this fire.
