COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus has several big events planned for the month of October that are big money makers.

The Tuskegee -Morehouse game traditionally brings $1 million into the community, according the Columbus Visitors Bureau Director, Peter Bowden.

The economic downturn is not expected to affect the projected revenues.  "If anything, we may see a larger economic impact, simply because this is one of those cases where people are staying closer to home, this gives them an event that's closer to their home. This may actually be a combination of not just football but may be a vacation for a lot of folks," said Bowden.

Several other events such as the Active and Retired Federal Employees Conference and The Georgia Council of Media Organization will also pump money into the local economy.

Fort Benning is also holding several graduations, which alone will bring an extra $500 million.
