COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus police were called to 17th Avenue just before noon Wednesday for shots fired.  When officers arrived, they reportedly saw two men running.

A witness tells News Leader 9 he saw the suspected gunman who he described as a tall, black male with dreadlocks, running through yards and jumping over fences.

Police dispatched the helicopter to circulate the area; meanwhile, the second suspect was handcuffed and detained in the back of a police car.

He was charged with obstruction of police and released to his guardian because he is a juvenile.

Police believe the suspected gunman got away and he is believed to be armed.

Columbus High School did lockdown as a safety precaution. No one was in danger on campus.
