COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The mother of Jilani Platt, 26, sobbed as she entered the courtroom Friday morning.  She remained calm throughout the preliminary hearing of her son-in-law, Zyderrious Platt, 31, who is accused of allegedly murdering her daughter.

Zyderrious entered a plea of not guilty before Judge Michael Joyner in Recorder's Court. According to testimony from a Columbus detective, Zyderrious led them to the body of his wife located near an embankment off Schatulga Road.

The detective told the court that they picked up Zyderrious on several occasions from the Muscogee County Jail to interview him while he was being held on a weapons charge. At that time, he had not been charged in connection with Jiliani's disappearance.  Her mother reported her missing early Sunday Morning.

On Monday, October 5th, on the way to the Columbus Public Safety Building for an interview with detectives, Zyderrious reportedly requested to speak to Lieutenant Joiner and said, "Today is the day that I'm going to tell you what happened."

According to the detective, Zyderrious says when Jilani returned to their Crystal Court apartment around midnight Saturday, October 3rd, from eating dinner with a friend; they got into an argument over paying the rent.  He says he was angry because he felt she wasn't spending the money wisely.

The two got into a scuffle and he placed his arm around her neck and choked her.  She fell to the floor at the top of the stairs. He got scared and left. When he returned, according to testimony, Zyderrious saw his wife's lifeless body lying at the bottom of the steps.  He says he thought she was dead and panicked, then, proceeded to place her body in his suburban.  He says he took her to a remote location off Schatulga Road.

When he arrived, Zyderrious reports he removed her body from the vehicle and got his 9 millimeter gun which he says accidentally went off and fired into the air.  A second bullet then hit her in the head. Investigators say they found a live round at the site that has been sent for ballistics testing.

Investigators went to the site with Zyderrious and saw the body and called for the coroner who pronounced her dead at 12:55 p.m. on Monday.   Autopsy results indicated Jiliani died from a single gunshot wound to the head, not strangulation.  She was 8 to 9 weeks pregnant.

The judge order Zyderrious held without bond on felony murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to police, Jilani dropped a battery charge against Zyderrious during their marriage for hitting her in the face.

The case is now bound over to Superior Court.
