Fort Benning hosts 9th annual sniper competition

FORT BENNING, GA - Thirty-one teams competed in the first two events of the Ninth Annual U.S. Army International Sniper Competition Oct. 15, which extends through Oct. 22.

Two-man sniper teams from across the globe are vying for the No. 1 spot in this year's event and are being tested in a wide range of skills in scenarios not commonly utilized throughout the military. 

The following are a list of events with updated times that media and spectators may attend Oct. 16 and 17:

Friday, Oct. 16, 9 a.m. -- Defensive Shoot - Competitors will be in makeshift, hidden structures engaging targets, but will be attacked by an enemy force and will have to move from those positions to pistol targets.

Saturday, Oct. 17, 11:30 a.m. -Unknown Distance - Competitors will be shooting at ranges where they have to determine the distance to the target and then engage the target.

The competition is open to the public.  Packets with maps, events and other information will be available at the Benning Road and I-185 welcome centers.
