COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - They may be in a elite class, but Tammy Segura, Mark Ellis and Dr. Joseph Surber are anything but boastful. All of them say they're humbled by the honor of being chosen as Georgia Trend's top 40 under 40.

Tammy Segura is a local business consultant, helping entrepreneurs reach their goals and teaching small businesses how to flourish.

"We are involved in the community and each of our 11 counties Chambers of Commerce. We're also involved in organizations like Rotary," says Segura.

And just up the street is Mark Ellis.

He's a Columbus contractor with his family owned firm.

Ellis most recently built the new Muscogee County School Board building.

"I was going into banking until my Junior year at Auburn when my dad came to visit and asked me to be in the family business," he adds.

Ellis is the president of the North Columbus Rotary Club and helps with Jordan High School's Career Academy, providing jobs for students and paying for their tuition at Columbus Tech.

"I think if you're going to live in the community you need to give back to it," says Ellis.

Dr. Joseph Surber is the chief medical researcher for the South East Regional Research Group., His staff provides cutting edge research right in Columbus.

"We are very involved in the community and making our research a big impact in the medical industry. I don't think anyone in the United States is doing it the way we are.
