Macon County Celebrates First Flag

MACON COUNTY, Ala. (WTVM) - Friday, history was made at the Macon County Courthouse. Community leaders gathered to unveil the counties first official flag.

Friday's dedication ceremony, brought hundreds together on a cold fall day to celebrate the first time Macon County has flown its own flag in its 177 year history.

The flag was designed by eighth grade art student, Tylon Douglas Junior. The Booker T. Washington student won a county wide contest to design the flag.

"When coming up with the flag I was thinking how I could unite the ideas of all the different cities and this county. I used the Tuskegee airmen as the symbol for Tuskegee and then I put all of the names of the different cities in the county together to unite them as one," Douglas explained.

Douglas, made history by not only designing, but raising the flag for the first time at the Macon County Court House.
