Hospital to host walk for breast cancer

SUMTER COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - More than 500 people from across the state are expected to attend Phoebe Sumter Medical Center's 6th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.

Organizers hope to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention as well show support for breast cancer survivors and their families. 

Over the past five years, more than 1,500 people have participated in this event, which starts at the hospital and goes through the heart of the city.

The walk is a culmination of a number of Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities, which include local businesses decorating their storefronts in pink and community members wearing pink every Friday.

The walk will begin at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center , located at 1048 East Forsyth Street, Americus , GA on October 24th, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.

There are three routes that walkers can choose from, ranging from approximately 1 miles to 4 miles.
