TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) - A Tuskegee University police officer is on suspension after charges of raping a young girl were filed against him.

Tuskegee University President Dr. Benjamin F. Payton confirmed the suspension, effective immediately, against university police officer Lt. John R. Moon.

Moon is charged with one count of sodomy, one count of enticing a child into a vehicle and one count of first degree rape.
According to the charges, the alleged event occurred off campus at approximately 5 a.m. Sunday, October 18th. Moon was off duty at the time.

Despite the location of the alleged crimes, and because of the seriousness of the charges against Moon, the University took the step of suspending him.

Moon has worked for the University for two and a half years.

The University says it is fully cooperating with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation with all aspects of the investigation.
