Robbery over vacuum cleaner sends man to the hospital

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A Columbus man is in the hospital after an overnight shooting.

Police say 31-year-old Raymond Nowell was walking with a vacuum cleaner near the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 38th Street around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday.

He was approached by a man who demanded Nowell to hand over the $1500 vacuum.

When Nowell refused to give it up, investigators say the man shot him once in the left arm. The bullet went into Nowell's chest.  Currently, he is listed in guarded condition at the Medical Center.

Warrants have been issued for the capture of for 19-year-old Eric Abdo.  He faces aggravated assault, armed robbery and weapons charges.
