COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Hundreds filled the Marion County High School gym this afternoon to say their final goodbyes to Erick Gutierrez's, #54. The linebacker's sudden death at a light practice on Tuesday shocked the Eagle community. Lovingly called "Goot," Erick will be remembered as a good listener. Friends say he could bring a smile to any face.

One of his teachers----Sherry McCallister remembers him as a role model, "when bad things happen to good people, the true tragedy will be that we learn nothing from it, Erick's lesson to us is to be a player, not a spectator, take that and run with it."

The Eagles are in the playoffs, and Coach Luke Jernigan credits Goot for this. He addressed the team and asked that they continue on with Erick's dream. "We will continue to play hard in honor of Goot. Most importantly is how we live our life."

The eagles took the field last night and won.

The players say that from here on out. They are working towards a state championship for Goot.

"We are one team, we are one family, we are the Eagles."
