OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - Tuesday, Opelika City Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to require students stay in school until they are 17-years-old.

Alabama law requires that students be enrolled from ages 7 to 17.

Previously, students could drop out at 16.

Before dropping out, Opelika High School will interview students with their parents or guardians.
