COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Jay Automotive Group has been in business for 26 years, with Jay Stelzenmuller at the helm.  He's now embarking on new territory, the Nissan brand.

Stelzenmuller plans to form a new corporation with Rob Doll of Rob Doll Nissan. The move would basically keep Doll in business with 49% interest as President operating the day to day business.  Stelzenmuller, Chairman of the Board would hold 51%.

"It's good for Jay Auto Mall, it's good for Rob Doll, it's good for Columbus because it will add additional jobs and create more income and provide for some families," says Jay Stelzenmuller.

The proposal is subject to approval by the Bankruptcy Court of the Middle District of Georgia and Nissan.  If all goes well, Stelzenmuller says he expects to begin selling the Nissan brand from his dealership in North Columbus in about 30 days.

"We can cure all the defaults; we can meet all the tests. There are things that come up.  Certainly, in any business transaction some you anticipate and some you deal with when they come up," says Stelzenmuller.  30 new jobs will be added if the corporation is approved.

Rob Doll's new Nissan building on Whittlesey Road where construction has been halted due to bankruptcy filings is not a part of this deal.  Doll's existing facility on Box Road is also expected to shut down.

A hearing scheduled for next week has been rescheduled for December 7th to include the new proposal.
