COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - With Veteran's Day approaching the House of Heroes took time to honor the veterans they helped this fall.

The organization held a reception at Hardaway High School Sunday afternoon and invited the 44 homeowners that were helped in the 2009 campaign. Each was recognized and honored by volunteers from the projects.

Organizers, like Susan Gerkin, say it was the perfect ending, "House of Heroes is a non-profit organization and what we do is repairs on homes of military veterans and public safety officers and we do it in an effort to say thank you to them for their sacrifices.  So what we're doing today is winding up the six week of work that we've done for these 44 veterans and their spouses or their widows and again saying thank you for their service and their sacrifice."

The 44 homes repaired this year brings the total homes fixed by the Chattahoochee Valley chapter to 366 over the past 10 years.
