United Healthcare Accepted Again at Hughston Clinic

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - "Unfortunately at that time we were making the decision that we were not accepting any United patients at that time."

That was in July, officials with the Hughston Clinic and Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital sent a letter to patients, explaining its contract with United would be terminated.

However, after further negotiations, Hughston Clinic CEO Mark Baker says the clinic and hospital will renew the contract with United, effective November 15th.

"We both have reached an agreement that we feel is fair and equitable, not only for each other but it's going to translate to the patients that we serve," says Baker.

Clinic and hospital officials initially blamed the contract termination on poor reimbursement.

United disputed those claims and even the fact that the contract would actually be terminated on the date publicized by the hospital.

It seems now though, both parties are satisfied.

"That means we have done our best on behalf of the employers who are looking to us to guard their dollars which are very difficult to come by in this recession time, and it means the health care provider has come to an amount that they feel will be acceptable for them to do business," says United Healthcare Southeast Communications Director Roger Rollman.

Baker says they are drafting a letter to send to patients explaining the fact that they are now accepting United Healthcare again.
