COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Residents in Columbus may soon be forking over more for their monthly water bill.

At the Columbus Council meeting today, Water Works officials announced the company is proposing that residential bills go up $1.74.

The company's president Bob Tant says the hike is due to inflation and lost revenues.

The Water Works board will vote on the increase at their December meeting.

The proposed rate would go into effect the first of the year.
