COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Columbus City Council had previously denied a request for a new cell phone tower on Old Buena Vista Road near the infamous "spider web" intersection.  ©2009 WTVM. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

But now the Zoning Board has approved it.

A 180 foot tower is being proposed- concealed as a flag pole.

City officials say it would be taller than utility poles and are concerned it would disrupt local businesses and homes.

A building permit for the project has not yet been issued and council plans to look at the matter again at their meeting in two weeks.
