Auburn Student Killed in Wreck

WAUGH, AL (WXTX) - An Auburn University student was killed in a one-vehicle traffic accident on Interstate 85.

State troopers said two Auburn students were traveling south on I-85 near Waugh about 11 p.m. Tuesday when their 2006 Chevrolet Equinox hydroplaned on the rain-slick highway and overturned.

The impact ejected the driver, 19-year-old Sarah Anderson, of Robertsdale.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe Anderson was not wearing a seat belt.

Twenty-year-old Sarah Clayton of Auburn was injured in the crash and transported to Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.  We're told Clayton was wearing a seatbelt.

A second crash occurred at the scene when a 2010 Volvo 18-wheeler struck the Chevrolet before it was moved from the roadway.

That crash resulted in property damage and only caused injuries to the driver of the truck.

Both crashes are under investigation by state troopers.

Waugh is about five miles east of Montgomery.
