COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A deadly shootings happened at Crystal Place Apartments in October, claiming the lives of 21-year-olds Tyesha McNair and Terence Clark. Now after a month, 23-year-old James Brock is facing double murder charges.
News Leader 9 has found this is not James Brock's first time behind bars. Since 2007, Brock has been in and out of jail for battery, failure to register as a sex offender, possession of a firearm and now murder.
Family members of the two victims, Tyesha McNair and Terence Clark, say this arrest is a step in the right direction for this case.
"I hope he gets the maximum of whatever they can give him for this," said LaTonya Boyd, Tyesha McNair's mother. She just found out her daughter's ex-boyfriend, James Brock, has been charged with her murder and the murder of her friend, 21-year-old Terence Clark.
Boyd told News Leader 9, "I always thought he was responsible because of the way she was killed. Nobody would have done that but him. He took an innocent person's life also with my daughter's life."
Boyd says although the news was hard to hear, she is not surprised that James Brock is charged because of the couple's past problems, "He had hit her once when she was pregnant with their first kid. They argued a lot. There was a lot of violence that my daughter didn't really tell me about."
Boyd says what's difficult now is breaking the news to Tyesha's two young girls that their father might be responsible for taking their mother's life, "She asks lots of questions. She talks about her a lot. She carries her picture everywhere. It's been very hard on her."
Brock is formally charged with two counts of murder, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He is currently being held in the Muscogee County Jail without bond.
