RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -  A major take down for the Russell County "PAIN" Narcotics Team- a man authorities say is a key player in the local drug trade is busted after months of police surveillance.

Forty-one-year-old Kelly Battle and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Gabriell Hollis, face felony drug charges after a bust late Tuesday night at their Phenix City home on Thornberry Circle.

Police confiscated more than $24,000 in cash, four cars, a quarter pound of marijuana and ecstasy in the operation.

Officials say Kelly Battle has been on their radar for quite some time.

"Mister Battle is not just a street dealer. He was obviously up the food chain and in my opinion, this is a very substantial hit for the team. These seizures that came out of this case are pretty substantial for this area," said Lieutenant Heath Taylor, Chief Investigator for the Russell County Sheriff's Department.

Narcotics officials tell WTVM the cars and cash they seized are assets of the local drug trade.

They say their investigation started after they received information that large amounts of marijuana were being moved out of the house.

Police say this investigation is ongoing.

Authorities say they are working to determine what other assets Mister Battle may have.
