Columbus woman robbed by man asking for cigarettes

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Police are investigating the robbery and assault of a Columbus woman. It happened Wednesday morning at a home on Bernard Street.

Forty-nine-year-old Julia Sauls tells Columbus officers, she sells cigarettes out of her apartment, but around 8:30 a.m. a man knocked on her door and asked to buy some.

She recounts, when she turned away to get a box and turned to face the man again, he was wearing a ski mask and told her "You know what this is. Give up the money."

The victim told officers she handed him $400 and the man struck her in the head with an unknown object, then took off. 

Sauls describes the alleged robber as a black man between 20 and 30-years-old, 5'10" to 6', wearing a grey hoodie, jeans and white shoes.
