Cessna to Shut Down Operations

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) – Fox 54 has learned that Kansas-based Cessna will shut down its Columbus operations.

Doug Oliver, the company's Director of Communications, says company officials came to Columbus to make the announcement to employees on Tuesday.

It will begin a 6 to 24-month long process to transition work from Columbus to other Cessna facilities in Wichita, Kansas and Mexico.

Currently, there are a little over 300 workers left in Columbus, but it's not an immediate job loss.

Oliver says the company will offer severance packages to employees. He adds the move is regrettable but necessary because of the economic downturn.

Fox 54 is following this story, we'll have the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
