RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -  A Phenix City man has been indicted in the city's latest murder case.

Marcus Hunter is charged in the death of Randolph Miles.

In the indictment, it says Hunter killed Miles by shooting him with a pistol in September.

In Hunter's first court appearance after his arrest, his lawyer told the judge he was standing outside of a building on Golden Lane off Highway 165 when he was approached by the victim who reportedly wanted to fight him.

To protect himself, his attorney said Hunter pulled out a gun and fired.

Officials with the Russell County District Attorney's Office said witnesses told police the victim was unharmed and was shot three times.
