COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Some Fort Benning army wives get early Christmas presents from a local hair salon.

News Leader Nine caught up with one business owner who says she just wanted to pamper some deserving women.

Hair Works on Wildwood owner and stylist Cynthia Redding said, "Today we're doing a "give back" service to our deployed spouses, whose husbands are in Iraq right now."

The event was called "A Deployment Blues Pamper Party" and the main goal was to make a few special women feel... special!

"We would like the ones in Columbus and Fort Benning to know we really care about them and we are looking after their wives and children," Redding told News Leader Nine.

Stylist Corina Graham had the idea to start the event because she finds herself in a similar situation as many of the women, "As an army wife I just really wanted to reach out to them and let them know we are here and we do think about them. I know what it's like. We're often forgotten about and the ones who are left here, their husbands are always thanked, so it's nice to give back to people who are left behind here."

Around 20 wives showed up at Hair Works on Wildwood to get pampered. Yolanda Bryant was in the process of getting a manicure when she said, "It is really nice, I thought it was all something we kind of needed, all the wives did. It's something they're just giving to us."

Not only do these women get a relaxing day, but some of these women are getting an early Christmas present.

Bryant added, "A lot of us can't afford to get our hair done, cut, highlighted, colored, make-up, nails. It's really nice."

Redding and Graham both said the customers have loved the experience, "They've been nice and they can't believe it's free. They're blown away by it."
