Ft. Benning Soldier Sentenced to Life in Prison

FORT BENNING, GA – Pfc. George D. MacDonald was sentenced Dec. 12 to life in prison without the possibility of parole, reduction to E1 and a dishonorable discharge for the death of another soldier.

MacDonald was found guilty of all charges and convicted of premeditated murder by court-martial Dec. 11. 

MacDonald stabbed Pvt. Rick Bulmer numerous times with a knife May 18, 2008. 

When confronted by other soldiers who responded to Bulmer's cries for help, MacDonald assaulted one of them with a knife and tried to flee.  Later, he was apprehended by a drill sergeant after a struggle and another attempt to flee.

MacDonald will serve his sentence at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
