COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Theresa Turpin and sisters are hoping to reunite with their cousin, Carlton Gary. "I last saw him in the 80s.  He carried me to pick my daughter up from school at Head Start.  At the time, she was 5 years old," says Turpin.

Nearly 30 years later, Theresa thinks he may not remember her.  "I would like to go see my cousin if I could, he should remember once he sees me," added Turpin.

If the family does make the trip to the prison in Jackson, Georgia, it will mostly be cousins from the Gary family.  "All of our aunts and uncles have passed on except for my father. He's in a nursing home with Alzheimer's and would not know who he is," according to Turpin.

In the meantime, Turpin says the family is praying for the best. "We just lift him up in our prayers, we keep praying for an early release for his wife and daughter.

Gary's adopted daughter, Charity Gary, has been actively involved in her father's case. "But now everybody will know what we've always known. We have supporters and people we didn't even know that believed in him," says Turpin.
