Press Release

EUFAULA, AL - An Eufaula man was killed in a Thursday morning crash. James Eric Martin, 36, of Eufaula was fleeing from the police when he lost control of his vehicle and ran off the road.

The initial investigation indicates that Martin was observed running several vehicles off the road on US 431, when a Eufaula police officer initiated his lights and attempted to stop him.

Martin then accelerated his 2001 BMW 740I and fled from the police.

Martin's vehicle traveled through the streets of Eufaula at a high rate of speed and turned west on US 82. He had traveled approximately two miles when the vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene by Barbour County Coroner Chip Chapman. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:19 a.m. in the city limits of Eufaula. Alcohol is believed to be a factor, and Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
