Christmas Eve armed robberies

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus Police are investigating two Christmas Eve armed robberies.

The first on Somerset Avenue on the City's South side.  Police say a gunman came up behind 25 year-old Lester Johnson and demanded cash.

Officers say Johnson wasn't the easiest target and charged at his attacker..trying to disarm him.  A fight ensued and the suspect struck Johnson in the head with his pistol.

The gunman managed to get away with $200 from Johnson's wallet.

The second robbery occurred at Road America Incorporated, a business on Victory Drive.

An employee, 46 year-old Hattie Lamar tells Police she walked through the front door on her way in to work and was approached by a black man man in his mid to late 20s, wearing a gray mask.

She tells police he pointed a gun in her face and demanded her purse. Police say the suspect got away in a two-door, black Chevy Cavalier or Hyundai.
